All bookings made through our website are commission free. Prices on other websites where The Old Mill Holiday Hostel is listed are more expensive so you will save money by using our BookNow App.

Group Bookings

We accept all types of groups, you name the group and we will do our very best to accommodate you. Our occupancy is a maximum of 52 beds– this can be increased slightly with the use of fold-up beds. Whether it be a family gathering that you have been planning for years, a stag-do and/or hen night to make the most of Westport’s nocturnal offerings, or a getaway exchange for students, we will be able to provide you with an affordable stay at the Old Mill Holiday Hostel, located in the town centre of Westport.

If your booking is greater than 10 people, then you will need to book directly with us. All group bookings are processed via email. This is to ensure we have all the information and that nothing is lost.

Please do not carry out a large group booking on our website or any other site where The Old Mill Holiday Hostel is listed as we are not able to hold a large number of beds without a deposit. A 50% deposit of the entire group is required at the time of booking. For example, if your stay costs €500 in total, you will need to pay a deposit of €250 to secure your booking. This is returnable up to one week before your check-in date. If you cancel less than seven days before checking-in, we will make every effort to resell the beds and refund you the difference.

You will be provided with the hostel’s IBAN where you can make the transfer. Please write the transfer in this way: DPST_FIRSTNAME_LASTNAME_CHECK-INDATE (for example DPST_JOHN_KELLY_26JUN22)

This allows us to easily identify who has paid. The first three letters of the month suffice. The remaining balance is due one week before check-in. This is when you will provide us with the final number for your group and if there have been any changes, the remaining balance will be amended.

Please note we are unable to amend the booking any more after this time.

Group Policy Statement

In order to ensure everything goes smoothly during your stay at The Old Mill Holiday Hostel, Westport, Co. Mayo, we invite you to read the following Group Policy Statement.

Making a reservation

Any bookings with 10 people or more is to be reserved via email only at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Please do not book on a third-party site. The Old Mill Holiday Hostel also likes to welcome travellers of all ages. Please note that those 17 or under can stay with us but must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18; they also cannot share the same dormitory with others from a different booking.

A 50% deposit of the entire group booking must be sent to the hostel’s IBAN when your reservation is confirmed. If this is not received within three working days, your reservations is at risk at being cancelled and will be offered to another group.

You must get back in touch with us at least one week before check-in to confirm the final numbers. This will then establish the remaining balance to pay. Please note it is not possible to further amend your booking after this final confirmation.

You must provide us with a list of all the names of everyone in the group who will stay at the hostel one week before check-in. Please also provide everyone’s contact number. Before the day of arrival, please let us know which guests on the list (if any) will not be in attendance.

On the day of arrival / check-in:

  • Please make sure you have provided the hostel with an approximate time of arrival. This is to ensure someone will be present at reception to welcome your group. Group check-in is from 3:30 pm – 10 pm. We encourage you to check in as early as possible if this can be arranged. Check out is at 10 am. There is no late checkout and you run the risk of losing some or all your deposit if you have failed to check out by 10 am.

  • If you arrive before 3:30 pm, it is possible to leave your luggage/belongings. We do not take any responsibility for any of your possessions. If the rooms are ready before this time, it may be possible to check in early but this is not guaranteed.

  • When checking in, only one person is allowed at reception, the designated group leader.

  • A behaviour deposit of €30 (cash only) per person staying from your group is required at check-in. No change can be given and bank cards are not accepted. Please have this ready before check-in. You will also need to sign a waiver, provided at check-in. Please read below for more details on the behaviour deposit.

  • Once the behaviour deposit has been received, the receptionist on duty will introduce the designated group leader to the hostel, explaining the rules and showing the rooms. After this, it will be the responsibility of the designated group leader to introduce their group to the hostel.

During Your stay

  • It is possible to rent towels. Please ask at reception for more details.

  • There is a free light breakfast between 8 am and 10 am in the kitchen/common area. This includes bread (toast), jams, porridge/oatmeal, butter, milk, tea and coffee. Guests are welcome to use the fridge/cubby holes provided throughout their stay. Labels are located beside the fridge and anything unlabelled will be put in the free food section and/or thrown out. Food and alcohol are neither to be consumed nor stored in the dormitories.

Check out

  • Check out is at the latest 10 am. We do not offer a late check out and staying after that time may incur a late check out fee/behaviour deposit being reduced.

  • When checking out, it is your responsibility to leave the room in an appropriate condition. Please make sure you have removed the following three items from the bed – pillowcase, duvet cover and bed sheet (please do not remove mattress protector) – and place them in the laundry basket on the stairwell.

  • In the unlikely occasion that there is damage to the room, please let us know as soon as possible. It is better to have warned the on-duty staff member before. You may lose some or all of the deposit depending on the severity of the damage.
